About the Artist:
Kavita Patil-Doddamane is a retired Board-certified Endodontist and a contemporary abstract artist. She was born in India, moved to the US at the age of 23, pursued her dental education in Philadelphia and Dallas, and practiced dentistry for over 25 years. Even when she was practicing Endodontics, she made time for art; it was a refuge and a way to balance the clinical with the personal, the technical with the intuitive. Kavita primarily works with acrylics and sometimes uses mixed media; her pieces reflect a fascination with detail and a reverence for the human experience. Self-taught and continually experimenting, she embraces new techniques and styles, always open to wherever inspiration leads. She has been involved with the ArtCentre of Plano for over 7 years and is currently serving on the Board. Over the years, she has happily contributed many of her pieces to fundraising and charity at the ArtCentre of Plano, Vibha, Akshya Patra, North Texas Food Bank, and North Texas Autism Association. Her recent work is influenced by Jackson Pollock, and she has combined drip painting with other techniques while exploring color, texture, and emotion with a deep sense of presence and gratitude. Her work often reflects her thought process while she’s at work -- calm, clarity, and connection. Kavita lives in Allen, TX, with her husband, 2 children, and their furbaby. She enjoys being active, likes to work out, and loves to travel.
Artist Statement
Since I was a kid, expressing myself through various mediums has been a joy. Between watercolors, oils, and now mostly acrylics, art has been a constant part of my existence and has helped me process emotions; happiness, confusion, grief, gratitude and more. As a travel aficionado, visiting various places that have plentiful museums and galleries to offer have influenced my work, making it layered and authentic. In the recent years, I have given up practicing a different kind of art – dentistry – and have redirected my focus to immersing myself into different artistic techniques. I’ve used dripping, splattering, scraping, and more to create compositions that reflect the landscape of my psyche. I believe creativity is a powerful form of therapy, and for me, it conveys resilience, self-expression, and strength. Each painting represents an exploration beyond color and technique; it represents exploration of emotion and healing. I strive to create art that brings viewers the same sense of calm and joy that I derive from painting.
